spring break. where do i start? it was absolutely magnifcent, and a total blast. right company, great place... i don't think i've ever enjoyed my one week of break so completely before.
a couple of changed perspectives i guess. less studying, more playing. haha not playing like doing nothing sorta playing, but more along the lines of going out and experiencing the life here. music fest in summer, different places and cities to see and go to... classes to take and a general attitude of enjoyment in whatever i do here. yet at the end of the day, other than studying hard and playing hard, it's still the reminder that at the center of it all lies God.
healthier eating habits too! now i'm an absolute sucker for salads and NAVEL ORANGES. yes. navel oranges. now it's a toss up between clementines and navel oranges for me haha. learnt to peel an orange with a fork. and i think we all picked up lots of pet phrases from each other...
the place was gorgeous. we had a great hotel, situated right at the beach. white sand, clear blue sky, great sea, WARM TEMPERATURES (it was like 28 degrees or so, but with far less humidity than singapore) you can imagine. it was gorgeous and in the words of my friend... 'we were chilling man'. we didn't really do much... played a bit in the sea, sun tanned a little (although we all slathered on so much sun block then in reality, none of us got darker haha. the irony), drove an hour out each night to eat really really great seafood and stuff, cooked in the kitchen (and had lots of cooking lessons from our senior), visited a strawberry festival at a traditionally southern kinda carnival (complete with pig racing...), went to watch a couple of imax shows, played lots of daidi (and indian poker...), read finished a book, dvd sessions, talking through the late nights...
yeah. it was great. 5 of us went, 4 from my batch, and one senior who's graduating in may (sadly...). rented a car over there and he was the main driver, although me and the other girl got to drive too. it's really cool driving in the US. the lanes are big and wide and people actually do kinda brake way earlier than in singapore (at least in tampa bay and in madison). it's like so much safer driving here. learning to use cruise control, driving with one hand for better control, driving at night. it really was kinda cool...
i guess we all grew much much closer. the staying together for 6 days, the talking sessions, the 'chill, dude' sessions. to cap it off, we even had dinner yesterday at one of their houses, complete again with indian poker (and the necessary equipment :) and daidi.
and i guess having the right people made all the difference. we were practically fighting to clean up after our meals (we cooked and everything) felt almost like living like a family. really thank God for a harmonious group that got along so well on every turn... it was great.
the break was just that. a break. for 6 days, no worries about exams and results and homework and quizzes. got 2 exams this week, but i feel kinda refreshed after the break that i guess i'm not that stressed up over them haha. it's back to school, back to work, back to drudgery in a sense. but a renewed and refreshed spirit, a better attitude.
not to add... i'll be down to michigan for midwestern games in 2 weeks, chicago two weeks after that, with dinners and movies already scheduled for the time in between. and after chicago, it'll be studying... and a month later, the semester ends. sigh. time passes so fast here... days, weeks, months fly by and sometimes i wish it would go slower. like sand slipping through my fingers, my days here are slowly numbering down. (even though i JUST got here!) oh well.
greatly increased my music education too haha. for those who are interested, the songs from the les choristes song track are absolutely fab. sympathique by pink martini is cool too. and jazz! all sorts of jazz. and of cos, tao ze's pu tong peng you. but tsk tsk.. dun be pirates ah... haha
