looks like there's been some comments hurled back at the US...

"I do not subscribe to the American liberal theory that democracy and the free market will solve everything. I believe you got to have order, discipline, rule of law, certainty of daily life. And you must make work, learning and studying rewarding. If you have that, everybody will grow."

"The Americans try to prescribe democracy by saying governments should allow free association, demonstrations and a free press. Here you want to hold a demonstration, you must have a permit first."

"Singapore's brand of democracy works because the government gives the country's citizens every reason to vote for it at elections. The country has maintained the principle of British democracy, that the electorate can vote a government out peacefully. but we have engineered it so carefully that they must be very stupid to vote this government out."

sure you did. very very carefully.

it's just funny, cos it really seems to me that such comments merely prove that we have a chip on our shoulders, and a parvenu's inferiority complex. similar, almost, to nus's gucci complex, so well known thru' out the world.

ah. my singapore. nothing's really changed has it?
