i think it's really sad that probably more than half of the college kids here in Madison have NO IDEA what is going on in New Orleans, even though it's part of the same country that they are in. Such a terrible tragedy and such indifference from the freshies here. what can i say? apathetic youth. and they keep claiming that we singaporean teenagers are apathetic...

this is really something to consider, and well, guess who it's written by? haha. best of all, it's all geog. see... the effectiveness of geog... everywhere, anywhere, any time.
but. considering when mm lee is coming from, u can understand the slight slant of the article -- the government knows best. shrug. maybe they do (must be pol correct! :)

first day of sch today. had french n psych (human sexuality -- social n psychological issues) in the morning. psych was interesting... it does promise to be fun and challenging, with an open view about the different social mores n influences as well as the biological aspects, so it really is a great course. (i hope... haha) but the readings can kill... urgh. i've 3 exams, 2 papers and 55 readings (which comes up to over a 1000 pages, NOT INCLUDING lecture notes, videos and clips...) and this is juz one subject. great job.

french was... bad. the lesson was taught wholly in french, which is fine, cos the teacher does as much hand signals as possible to get us to understand wat she is saying. problem is, u have 3/4 of the class taking it, when they have had like 3 to 4 years background. like hi??! it's like me taking first semester chinese, when my standard's actually ten semester or sth. it changes the pace of the lesson and the teacher has to try n accomodate both types of students (ie pple like me n pple like them). i mean, these people know all the meanings to all the words n all the pronounciations n stuff. would haf been an exciting course if not for this. n like there are 10 tests, a couple of orals tests, homework, n lessons everyday. i'm considering dropping this if i can get the one on 'intro to city' heh.

another lesson coming up at 2.30pm. the acting class :) kinda excited... hopefully it'll be fine.

oh n thank God i juz got my atm card. juz in time to buy my textbooks which are freaking expensive!!! urgh. like i'll be getting second hand books, n i can expect to haf to pay $300 or more. thankfully, can sell back after i'm done. sigh.....

Yea... same with US, Aussie kids seem to think that the world revolve around them. Remembered that a friend once when to Canada for some NCC camp. When he was at the back of the school bus with the US corps (I don't know what they are called), they asked him where he was from. He said, Singapore. All of them gave him a blur look and ask around... where is that? All of that. Then finally one guy said he thinks he knows where Singapore is... "is it somewhere in China?" My goodness. Singapore is their number 7 trading partner right?(If I remembered correctly)And they still don't know.

Next semester, see if you can get the textbooks from the Clementi bookstore in Singapore. About 1/4 the price for some textbooks... but they may not have the textbook you want... but still worth a try. My South African friend buys his textbooks from Clementi too. Haha. He paid $30 instead of $120 or $130. Said that he could use it for the whole semester, sells it off and still make $50 off it.

psychology and human sexuality? Freud? Evolutionary Psychology? Contains lots of 'just so' stories... that are explained away on the assumption that evolution took place. Of course there are some scientific study backing their research up... but the interpretation and explanation of the results is another thing.

As for French, you'll be at a disadvantage... 'cos it like likely that most of your friends will do better... meaning that after moderation, it would pull your grades down.

Hope you are enjoying yourself there. Enjoy the freedom!!!
