So this year is going to be the year of reading. To both delve deep into the word, as well as to chew and explore the meat through books.
uncle fuji just passed me 10 books - a mix of devotional and expository. i'm not sure if i'll be able to get through it, in addition to the two more books by my bedside already, but we'll see...
every time he speaks to me, he never fails to encourage and challenge me - God always touches me thru the words that he speaks into my heart. truly, this couple is one whom i respect so much in the faith, and whom God has used mightily in the lives of so many people.
so one book down this year - tim keller's counterfeit gods. but that was easy enough to read through. the next one is a much tougher challenge - David Well's "the courage to be protestant" and then J.I. Packer's "Knowing God". I'm sure there is much in store that God wants to speak and challenge me about!
a quote that i just read earlier this week (David Clarkson's Soul Idolatry http://www.rhc.org.sg/images/Soul_Idolatry.pdf) - ties in with simon's preaching last sunday. my macdonald happy meal toy is nothing in comparison with the glories and riches of His kingdom. and I surrender it all, unto Him whom my soul loves!
"He who makes Christ his chief aim, if at length he finds Him whom his soul loves—this quiets his heart—whatever he lacks, whatever he loses besides. He counts this a full recompense for all his tears, prayers, inquiries, waitings, endeavors."
