there can be no perfect knowledge of God until we are finally with Him, and therefore, without knowledge, we cannot know the existence of God. But in the evidence that points to Him, it is possible to reason that a Creator exists, that morality in our society came from a Law-Giver and did not arise merely to continue the existence of a species, that man is different from a gnat. Because reason exists, while perfect knowledge is lacking, faith comes into play. It is reasonable for me to believe that God exists, and while I do not know this for sure since I have yet to see or touch God, my reasoning leads to my faith. Not a blind faith, but one that is tested and supported by evidence, one that has been reasoned out.
The opposite of faith is not doubt. Rather, it is fear. For it is possible for the co-existence of faith and doubt, as in the case of John the Baptist when he was in jail, or Peter on the water. people who had seen miraculous things, who had been with Christ.
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" Heb 11:1
that concludes my summary of last sunday's sermon. when the day comes that we see God face to face, there will be no need for faith, since i already see what my faith has hoped for. but until that day, reason and faith propels, neccitates, demands that I accept that my God exists, and died for me, and is offering grace and eternal life to me.
isn't it beautiful?
